Oh, the things I've NOT been doing!

Mckmama- Not Me Monday

It has been awhile, dear readers, since I've had much NMM fodder...but this weekend the past 2 weeks?  FULL of it.  (For those of you who are ignorant to how NMM works, click the button!)

I absolutely did NOT, after a full day of Screech's incessant and ear-piercing, uh, screeches, find myself an incoherent, brain fogged mama.  And I did NOT decide to pack us both into the car a little after 2, hoping a change in scenery would jolt his temperament back to the peaceable one he used to bless us with, only to find the clock, glaring 2:15 at me.  And, because glares are seen and not heard, I did NOT seem to hear the aforementioned glare hissing tick-tocks at me, accusingly.  I did NOT have to mumble to myself, "2:15, why is that sticking in my mind like a bad idea?" repeatedly, and I most certainly did NOT panic when it suddenly came crashing into my consciousness that Middleton's OM team was doing  a dress rehearsal of their problem in front of the school at their assembly and he'd told me their curtain time was 2:10.  I did NOT utter a swear that starts with S, because such language is absolutely NOT a residual struggle of my childhood influences for me.  I did NOT gun it straight to the school and did NOT feel a flood of relief upon seeing that the assembly was only just beginning.  You see, since I was NOT actually late, none of that earlier stuff mattered.  I made it to see my special little guy perform, and he was none the wiser!  Phew.....

I did NOT freak out when Special Ks birthday cake (yes the party was almost 2 weeks after her birthday, thank you to the Over-Scheduled School-Aged Children stage in life) failed to rise, instead sinking into layers with miserably gnarled topography.  Said cake's failure to rise was NOT due to my stubborn inability to drop the SuperMom attempt at creating memories that really wouldn't be all that different had I made a cake mix that I knew would turn out reliably.  Because I do NOT have any motherhood issues...at.  all.  I did NOT attempt to fix the cake's lopsided layers by strategically placing the low ends atop the high ones, nor did I try to level them with obscene amounts of frosting.  Nope, the cake turned out perfectly, if I say so myself...picture evidence is not so easily shared....it's on my FB acct and my Droid and has not been uploaded to my lappy.

I also did NOT lose my running shape this summer, dropping from a 6 mile avg run, 3+x/wk, to a less than 3 mile avg run, 1-2x/wk.  Because I'm harder-core than that!  I did NOT, therefore, entertain* the idea of running the Sharin' o' the Green 5k last week because it was 1.) Just hours immediately preceding K's bday party and 2.) a stretch, given my current lack of running.  *Entertain = go to the online registration for the race, only to abandon the thought prior to hitting submit....or maybe you actually do hit submit and subsequently talk yourself out of it, forgetting you had hit submit.  Uh, yeah...  My memory is shot, y'all!  Because, 1.) I, again, have NO issues with needing to prove myself, and therfore feel NO need to put myself in such an overcommitted frenzy that only SuperMom can master, and 2.) well, let's just say I know my limits.  Because I was NOT so silly to register for this race, I stayed up into the wee hours of the morning.  And failed to hydrate.  Then, mere hours later, I did NOT chug some water, put my running duds on and get the dog all excited, grab my phone (b/c I cannot live without my iMapmyrun app!) only to find an e-mail from Active.com wishing me luck at my race just before I set out the door.  I did NOT frantically run upstairs to rouse Mr. Fixit and tell him, "Uh, I guess I did register for that race and I gotta leave NOW!"  I did NOT speed to the race site only to get there when registration check-in was supposed to close, and I certainly did NOT revisit my unwholesome talk when I couldn't find a parking space.  I was NOT simultaneously Relieved (ah! not LATE) and Frustrated (I'm gonna have to jet back for the party!) that registration was running 15 minutes behind schedule.  I did NOT have to walk for approximately 3 mins after 2.5 miles, because I'm In Such Great Shape I've Run A 10k Before!  And I did NOT lose the full-on sprint to the finish line from the last corner to a woman who had a good 15 years on me, but most certainly, I did NOT puke seconds after crossing the finishing line when I began to put the brakes on.  I mean, heck if I ran a 5k in a sub20 time, then I'm entitled to puke, but 37 minutes was not really puke-worthy...it wasn't even a PR for me.  I did NOT walk immediately to my car, arrive home, and proceed to rapidly sponge bathe, apply deodorant and change clothes only to get everything gathered up for the b'day festivities, arriving at the party less than 40 minutes after crossing the finish line.  Because that would require SuperMom.  And I?  Am so NOT her.  But maybe I am, sometimes.

I did NOT forget that the Mother's Day Out program Screech has been going to when I work was closed for the Neighboring School District's spring break (which is different from our school district's spring break and therefore, not on my radar) last Tuesday.  Therefore, I did NOT get all ready to go, drive down there, only to see it was a ghost-town and be slapped with the realization that I'd Failed To Plan.  I did NOT go to my contracted agency's office with baby in tow whilst he slept.  And he did NOT wake up while I was trying to transfer files, and proceed to cry while other people may have been in therapy.  That will NEVER happen again.  Ugh....

So....per Almond Joy and Mounds, somedays you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't.  Lately, I'm on a nutty streak.

Not Me Monday - Couples Retreat

This one is gonna be good - it has been accumulating simmering.

Two weeks ago, on our couples retreat, I did NOT forget to bring my breast pump.  I had planned this trip for months, I surely wouldn't have forgotten something as vital as that, as comfort, on a getaway weekend no less, is something of importance to me!  And I did NOT remember that I'd left said pump on the kitchen counter while just mere blocks away, and still opt to not go back for it, thinking, I'm only nursing Christopher before naps and bed anyway.  Production is slowing.  I'll be FINE.  Yeah, because if I HAD forgotten my pump, those would have been some famous last words as I did NOT wake at o'dark-thirty each morning when I could have been luxuriating in unadulterated sleep since we were sans kids.  Because none of that happened, I did NOT have rock hard boobs all weekend, I did NOT have to go painfully and manually express milk in the shower a couple of times per day, and my husband did NOT make crude jokes about going on a mission to find a calf elk to relieve me.  Whoopsies!

I did NOT forget my camera.  Or maybe just to put working batteries in my camera prior to leaving.  See above about planning the trip for months and getting all the details.  I surely wouldn't have missed such an important one as this that I had to go spend an arm and a leg in the YMCA gift shop for batteries.  Not me!

My husband, a couple of elders and I did NOT speak in Song of Solomon code and giggle like junior high kids who were talking about S-E-X at the breakfast table.  Because we're mature and this was a church retreat!  And during the same discussions, my husband did NOT say, repeatedly, that the rooms were quite quiet, you couldn't hear a thing, they were well insulated, etc. as a veiled way of saying, "I got lucky with my wife last night."  Because he has more tact than that, right?  And I certainly did NOT jerk that veil off of what he was getting at by furiously whispering, "You keep saying that and people are going to KNOW!" only to realize that a few of our friends were.  RIGHT. THERE.  Because I know how to be discreet.  And I did NOT start blushing, a deep red blush similar to the one I wore the morning of our honeymoon when I heard the baby next door crying and realized that the thin walls were how the other guests had identified us as honeymooners at breakfast, at this.  Because I believe strongly in talking openly and honestly about the beauty of sex within marriage and if people know we do it then they know we have a close relationship and there's nothing to be ashamed/embarrassed of, right?  Seth did NOT try to back pedal and say something like, "I was just saying I was glad I didn't have to hear I's bathroom visits," to which I's wife did NOT reply, "Too late, I saw how you looked at her!"  Because, again, it was a couples retreat, what did people think we were going to do?!?  No kids, focusing on your marriage, being in God's beautiful creation...hmmmm, two guesses?  LOL.

I did NOT instruct an elder to give his wife a cat-call when she bent over to tie her shoes before our hike together, having just been in a session where we'd talked about emotional needs, two of them being admiration and an attractive spouse.  She did NOT get all mock-indignant with me, and we did NOT laugh our hineys off.  Because 1.) he's smart enough to do that on his own, and 2.) Church retreat.  Prim and proper y'all!

I did NOT nearly lose control of my bladder while playing a game called Old World Outhouses.  (It is a SIMPLE but so ENTERTAINING non-commercial game that combines elements of Pictionary with that beloved Telephone/Gossip game.  To play you simply give each person - a recommended minimum of 8 players - a stack of notecard sized papers with as many pieces as there are people.  Players write a phrase/saying on the top sheet and then pass the whole stack to their right.  Players on the right read phrase, and put it on the bottom of the stack, then draw the phrase or saying as best they can.  Players pass to the right and again put the picture on the bottom of the stack, but have to guess what the picture is illustrating, so they write a phrase.  Pass to the right and simply repeat until all players have had all the stacks.  Then read and view the updated renditions that people came up with)  Because it was a church retreat we did NOT have phrases/pictures with sperm, drug paraphernalia, violence, etc.  See above statements about maturity, solemnity etc.

Fond memories of this retreat abound - this is just a taste ;)

I can NOT wait for next year.  Because I'm impatient like that.

Things That Do *NOT* Happen When Mama Gets Sick

Easter 2010 was more than a little "off" at Casa del Meyer this year.

For starters, we definitely were NOT so broke that we neglected to even dye eggs this year, let alone do any of the other fluffy Easter traditions that have nothing to do with Christ's resurrection.  And we surely didn't avoid addressing the kids about this breach in custom, only to eventually give a lame talk on how even the Easter Bunny is cutting back these days.  We would NEVER be anything but upfront with our kids!

Yesterday, I did NOT wake with a gurgling in my tummy at 5:45am.  I did NOT roll over and panic that I had to wake Seth so he could ensure that Christopher didn't wake and roll out of our bed - because our baby is almost 1 and he definitely is past the whole waking-in-the-middle-of-the-night-because-I-can-only-get-to-sleep-and-stay-asleep-in-Mama's-arms thing.

Seth did NOT play possum as I frantically tried to wake him while willing my stomach contents to stay put, because he's a great husband who knows that I wouldn't wake him at o'dark-thirty for just any ole reason!  When he did finally, reluctantly, arouse his senses, he did NOT snap at me and roar, "What are you doing?" because, well see the previous statement about what kind of husband he is.

I then rushed to the bathroom.  And again an hour later.

Around 7:30, Colton came in and they were watching cartoons.  I did NOT nag them that they ought to be getting ready for church (9:00 classes!).  They did NOT bounce on the bed, knowing that I was having GI distress, because I have more sensitive children than that!

I got sick once more.  Oy.

They left, and I slept.  The whole time they were gone.

At 12:30 they were home.  And they did NOT wake me up to announce they were home.

Seth did NOT obliviously hand me a poopy Christopher and ask, "Can he lay down with you?"  Because he has a sense of smell, last I checked, and he would really be more sensitive than that, now wouldn't he?  So I did NOT get up and change the baby, because there would be no need for me to do such work when I was so ill seeing as how attentive and others-focused my family is, only to be faced with that familiar gurgling.

I did NOT have to shove Colton out of the way on my way up the stairs, because he totally heard me when I said, "Move!"

I slept more - until about 4:00, when Seth really needed a reprieve from Christopher and asked if I could get him to take a nap.  Which I did.  He did NOT only take a 25 minute nap, however, because he is an intuitive kid and usually knows when we really need a break.

I did NOT go downstairs and see our living room and kitchen in complete disarray, because the kids and Seth knew that I couldn't tend to it all today.

Mamas do NOT get sick days, do we?

Boy Do I Have a Lot of Things I've NOT Been Doing....

Turns out wedding behavior is GREAT NMM fodder!

I surely wasn't stressing out last Monday as the clock read 1:40-something pm as we left Small Western CO Town.  Because I certainly hadn't agreed to host a Mary Kay party the day after my sister's wedding at my house at 7:00pm.  In Suburban NoCO City, which is 4 to 4 1/2 hours away.  I mean, there was nothing to sweat, since we'd be home at 6:00 tops, sans dinner and everything had to be unloaded and assembled in less than an hour, because I would never have said yes to such a TIGHT schedule after a LONG weekend, right?
Wrong: I simply couldn't say no to the college girl from church who does MK on the side and thought we could make it work.  Which we did, but OY!  I create much of my own chaos it would appear.

I am pretty sure that I did NOT tell my sister, "Too many fish and chips," per her dietary account when we were out for girls' night a few days before the big event as I struggled to get her dress closed the morning of her wedding.  Because I'm a much more supportive and tactful big sister/MOH than that!  We did, despite a brief moment of wardrobe hysteria due to a missing hook at the top of her gown, get her zipped into her dress, but it was a very tight fit!

I also did NOT decide to rely on a pair of adhesive cups to work a [strapless] miracle against gravity and provide the coverage and support a mother of 3, whose breasts have seen more inflations and deflations than the NASDAQ, DOW Jones, and S&P 500 combined, needs under her formal wear.  I mean after all, I'm savvy about the state of my bosom so I totally knew that I needed some strong supports, right?  Therefore, I definitely did NOT add to the things which made my mother run about like a chicken without its head, by paging her from the public restroom at the chapel, and inquire if she'd be so kind as to bring me some masking tape.

When my youngest brother saw me for the first time the morning of the wedding and said, "Oh shit, Heather, you look just like Sarah Palin*," instead of, "Wow, you look great!" I did NOT revert back to old family of origin behavior and flip him the bird.  *Yes, partisan politics aside, physically the woman is attractive, especially for her age.  But let's see you be successful in telling any woman you know that she looks like a pretty woman who's 15 years older than she is.  And a barracuda at that.

Days before the wedding, I did NOT cave on my resolve to observe Lent this year with a period of abstaining from "added sugar," i.e. I allowed myself to eat breads w/minimal sugar but no desserts, sugary snacks, etc. by devouring scads of the homemade graham crackers I'd made for Christopher, in attempt to avoid the dreaded HFCS monster.  Because I have more will power than that.  Because I don't steal crackers from babies.  And also?  I did NOT fall off the sugar wagon yet AGAIN this past week when my hormones were raging.  I absolutely did NOT eat a whole sleeve of Thin Mints in preparations for my dear Aunt Flo.  And I have NOT been rendered powerless by hormones to as yet hop on the no-sugar wagon again.  Because estrogen doesn't own me, right?

:giggle:  dear me, there's a lot that I did NOT do, and I've not even told the half of it....

It's Monday Again....

Which means it's time for....

My Not Me's are a little on the tame side this week, but for what it's worth:

I did NOT forget that it was trash day last Friday and "bump" into our trash can at the end of the driveway because I was too busy barking at two :cough: the oldest ones kids in the backseat to quit doing this, that or the other thing to heed my rearview mirror's admonishment that There. Is. A. Honkin'. Big. Mass o' Trash. At. The. End. Of. The. Driveway.  I did NOT underestimate what seemed to be a MINOR bump and simply pull forward, re-enter reverse and obliviously go about my way.  And I did NOT kick myself in the pants when I got home and the kids, after playing on their bikes in the alley, later told me, "Uh, Mama, you broke the car when you hit the trash can."  Because I definitely had NOT managed to crack my left tail light.  I'm not one of *those* women drivers, I swear!  Also: like my car doesn't already have a POS look to it, I had to add to it.

I did NOT get so wrapped up in conversation with my sister - who is getting married in 6 days, SQUEEEEEE!!!! that I changed Christopher's poopy diaper on my lap (successfully at that) while on the phone.  Nor did I justify neglecting to put a new diaper on him on the grounds that we'd just gotten back from a run and we'd take a shower soon anyway.  I did NOT, upon seeing Christopher had fallen asleep, say, "I'll just put him in his crib as is and take my shower," citing that his sheets needed changed anyway.  I did NOT get out of the shower only to be greeted by a very WET boy who was none so happy about it nor was there POOP all over his bed!  Gah, so much for killing two birds with one stone.

Not Me Monday: Kelsey's Birthday Edition

In honor of Kelsey's birthday, this will be things I did NOT do from the time she was in the womb to birth.....

I was not so impatient to know whether I was pregnant (because I did NOT go off the Pill 6 mos prior, citing irreconcilable hormonal differences, and then during one night of passion, neglect to use the barrier method), that I bought an HPT and took it with me to my college classes that morning in July 2000.  So NOT impatient was I that I did not insist on peeing on the stick during a class break in a dimly lit public restroom in the basement of my university.  And I definitely did not hold said stick, now peed upon, up to the fluorescent light in the very public entry to confirm the presence of that second line!

I did NOT gain 57 lbs while pregnant with Kelsey, and definitely not because I ate cinnamon rolls nearly every night for dessert.  I certainly did not use being with child as an excuse to eat whatever I wanted to when I wanted to.  Children are a blessing, not an excuse for unrestrained gluttony!

I did NOT, after pushing for 1 1/2 hours, tell my mother and mother in law that the next person to say "You're almost there!" was going to have to [bleep]ing leave.  They'd been saying it for over 45 minutes and I, quite frankly, was sick of that cheerleader on the sidelines BS.  I did NOT tell the doc that I couldn't do it then either, lol.  Another hour later, with some very swollen parts, I did finally get her out!

I did NOT take more pictures of Kelsey as a baby than I have of both boys combined.  That first child devotion is a myth and I have equal amounts of pictures of all my children at every age!  I can't even type that with a straight face, are you kidding me?  But, in my defense to all you subsequent kids out there, it is not a devotion issue so much as a practicality/time management issue: Often, baby pics of you include your older sibling just because who has time for individual shots ALL the time?

Not Me Monday 1-25-10

Yes, it's Monday again, and yes I have plenty to tell you all what I have NOT been up to.

I have definitely NOT let my baby call a Pack 'N Play in our room his bed for the last 6 months instead of a crib. (His first bed was a proper cradle in our room). I definitely have NOT procrastinated on getting the crib assembled because all of the bedrooms were NOT in a state such that they would have failed a health and safety inspection. Not me, I'm a great housekeeper, I stay on top of things, and I have taught my children well in the tidying arena! (Hey, a girl can dream, right?)

I did NOT then, spend a whole day in Colton's room last Saturday, while Seth was working, cleaning and reorganizing furniture so that we could get the crib put up. Again, things are so neat and tidy that I barely have to do much to maintain our clean home! Because none of this happened, I did not have to call Seth at work to inquire as to where I might find an allen wrench (During said call I informed him I DO know what one is - just didn't know where they were making their home). And I didn't promptly go into the garage where he has a BUCKET of tools and other miscellania, find my allen wrench and proceed to assemble a crib, all by myself. I did NOT have any problems following instructions and was quite smug and pleased with myself when it was all put together. But then I did NOT notice a piece that was still out and realize I'd forgotten to put it in, oh, all the way back in STEP 2!!! *sigh* Right about then Seth got home (telling you, I did NOT spend ALL day in there!) and got that odd piece in and went to tighten my allen wrench screws. I did NOT hand him the TENT STAKE I'd used all along as an allen wrench, and we did not laugh at ALL about my sleep-deprivation induced stupidity. Seth did NOT remind me, "I know what an allen wrench is, I just need to know where they are!" Oy vey. Always an adventure.

In other life events, Kelsey is selling Girl Scout Cookies (and will be thru the end of February so if you want some, e-mail me!). Last Monday we went around the neighborhood and sold some cookies to the folks living in the townhomes. When we returned she wanted to call all of her relatives and sell over the phone. When we got to her Uncle Jared's phone number, I did NOT tell her it was "303- 619-xxxx" instead of "303-617-xxxx." Thus she did not speak to a TOTAL STRANGER. So I did NOT have the following conversation when she handed me the phone while I was cooking dinner that night:

"Hi!"

"Hi, this is Raleigh."

"What? Is Jared not there? Are you a friend?"

"Uh, no - your daughter just called me, Raleigh, and wanted to sell me some cookies."

:lightbulb:

"Oh, no! I told her 619, and it should have been 617! Oh, I'm so sorry, she meant to call her Uncle Jared!"

"Well, I'm a businessman and I thought she did a great job for a cold call - so I'd still like to purchase a box from her."

And I did NOT proceed to collect his mailing information so that we could then ship his box of cookies when we got them in.

Finally, the other night we did NOT start baths so late that Kelsey had to be in brushing her teeth while the boys bathed. (Kelsey and Colton are getting to that age where they really ought to give each other privacy when nude now). Colton was kicking water with his legs to splash Chritopher a bit (my shirt sleeves as well, I might add), and I did Not giggle when Kelsey glanced over and said, "Your penis looks like a bobble-head when you do that!" That would be immature and only serve to encourage future sayings of this funny little phrase. No, I remained calm and without response, so really I had NO idea why Colton proceeded to chant over and over that night "I have a bobble-head penis!" And I definitely did not have to suppress more laughs again while typing that story out. Because I'm more grown up than that.

Not Me Monday: January 11, 2010

(I obviously did NOT start this on Monday and leave it in my drafts folder for days afterward!)

It's been awhile since I played along with Not Me Monday, but this week there were a fair amount of things that dealt a blow of conviction to my gut. And a few funnies. Perfect mix for Not Me Monday, eh? So without further ado....

Last week I definitely did not get so frustrated at my dishwasher (which has suddenly decided to rinse with water rife with all that chopped up bits of food it creates and therefore deposit a gritty, albeit[food] organic, silt-like substance on all my glassware) that I proceeded to handyman it myself. I certainly did not unscrew the lower rinse blade and pull out the perceived culprit, what appeared to have once been a cheesestick wrapper (thanks kids!) only to put it back together somewhat askew. Because none of this happened, there was not a huge increase in the volume of the dishwasher while running. I mean, this never happened because I would never, ever, attempt anything mechanical on my own, right? And then, I did not get freaked out by this hypothetical noise to the point that when Seth arrived home I surely didn't forget to greet him with words other than, "I think there is something really wrong with the dishwasher." Because I appreciate my husband as more than the appliance fixer! So, because I did NOT say that in a huff of frustration as Seth came thru the door, I don't know why he proceeded to say, "Well the bushing isn't on right," unscrew it and adjust only to rescrew it in. Too tightly, thus REALLY breaking the dishwasher as the part in qestion snapped in two. :sigh:

($5 bought a new part and it has since been reinstalled...the food grit is still, however, occurring. I am NOT frustrated wit this at all!)

On Friday, I did NOT impulsively jump on the facebook bandwagon and post my bra color as a status update without thinking it thru. Because I think more about those sorts of things, after all, right? Whoopsies.

Sunday morning after Christopher had the nastiest diaper known to moms (thank you spinach...I feel sorry for Popeye's mama now!), I did not contemplate using (and subsequently disposing of) a spatula to scoop the poop into the toilet because it was sooooo copious! (we're cloth diapering for all you disposable users going, 'toilet? huh?') Well, ok, maybe I did think that, but I certainly did not just toss the insert into the tub as I harriedly swished the nastiness in the toilet, because that would be lazy! And I didn't later toss it in the bathroom sink when I needed to shower, because the diaper pail is Just.Right.THERE.Outside.The.Door! And I definitely didn't put my finger in residual pooh when I finally went to put it in the pail, because I remember these things and handle all waste gingerly! :shudders:

I have not washed and rewashed the same load in my washer 3 4 times this week. That would be wasteful.

There are more things I have Not done, but it would take me another week to write them all out - enjoy!

Not Me! Monday - 6.15.09

Recently my friend Angela began blogging, and as often happens when one begins to read someone new, introductions to other, new-to-you bloggers are made. Angela reads MckMama, who has this fabulous blog carnival/meme called:

MckMama explains:
Embarrassed that your child urinated in their pants at your mother in law's house?Ashamed about the cupcakes you ate for dinner? Would you like to hide the fact that you put your child to bed in their dirty clothes from the day instead of in clean pajamas? We'll don't be! Not Me! Monday was born out of my desire to admit some of my imperfections and reveal a few moments I'd rather forget. You may find it therapeutic to join in and do the same thing!

So without further ado, here's my attempt at my first Not Me! Monday

I definitely did not, in effort to boost my protein intake as recommended by a home health nurse, take out my [realtively] new Food Network blender (read: not cheap), throw some protein powder, milk, peanut butter and a banana in and proceed to blend without first remembering that the seal was not in place, but had been thrown in the blender by Someone (Not Me!) last time it was washed. I definitely did not put 2 and 2 together when the smoothie oozed all over out the bottom, and, because this didn't happen to me, I did not later fish out the shredded bands that were once the seal to my beloved blender with a saddened heart. That would be completely boneheaded!

I surely didn't place a towel on the sheet and sleep on it the other night when Lil Guy decided to wet my bed, and also proceeded to spit up like Mt. Vesuvius, during a midnight diaper change. Further, I didn't continue to sleep like this for a few more days before changing the sheets - that would be disgusting!

Finally, I definitely have NOT been eating family size servings of the desserts that have come with the meals people have been bringing over. For example, an entire pan of brownies (that the family never even got to taste) disappeared over the course of 2 days, and I definitely did NOT eat them ALL.

Or maybe I did and that is why the pregnancy weight is no longer falling off me ;)
