Thanking God For a Not-So-Small Miracle

So, I think we're effectively weathering the parenting storm maelstrom that popped up late last week.

Punkinhead is getting it.

And to be clear, for the newer readers - he is the younger child, as was his friend. LMNOB is older by 2 1/2 yrs.

But, as LMNOB put it Thursday morning, Punkinhead and his friend are "both 4, and 4+4 is 8, which is bigger than 7!" No matter how you equate it, 2 is always greater than 1.

Oh, and does that not strike anyone else as a little Rainman-ish? It frightened me a bit, as she continued with this adding theme that morning, noticing that her [tan] camouflage capris + his [gray] camo shorts = 1 whole pair camouflage pants. She does that, though - retreats into her world rightontheedge of the Autistic spectrum, when she is traumatized. Also, she pooped herself that day while with the babysitter - again a common regression with things such as these.

Today at church, I braced myself for the awkward - as last night Punkinhead was convinced that he needed to write his friend a note [the boy can hardly grasp a pencil correctly, much less write at this stage, so I thought that was cute] telling him why they couldn't play together anymore - as Punkinhead is still processing this deal, telling everyone the concrete details, that because of what they did, he cannot play with this little friend anymore.

But praise the Lord, said friend and his family were out of town today - which means that we have more time for this to blow over.

Another not-so-small miracle? My O is not GONE per se, just intermittent ;) Yes, Becky, we are so doing it to test it out ;)

  2. Wow! I read a lot of posts there. Too bad your son is around that naughty little boy. I can't believe 2 four year olds could do that to a 7 year old! Especially sister! I'm glad everybody is okay!

As for the rainmanish thing... hmmm, is she autistic? One thing that popped into my head when I read that was that she probably has some degree of synesthesia. Look it up if you aren't familiar with it. It's a harmless condition that like 3 or 4% of the population has. It runs in my family, and I have it to some degree. If she does, then to her, that is "normal," and as far as she is concerned, everybody else perceives the world the same way she does.

As for the missing O? That was a brave thing to talk about. I am on an ever-increasing dose of Prozac, and yes it makes it very hard for me to finish. For men, I know that Welbutrin is an anti-depressant that can keep you coming back for more. LOL. But I'm not sure if that one would also work for women.

  3. Go O, Go Heather, it's your birthday, it's your birthday...well not really, but in a sense, right!

    HUGS for the awesomeness!

  4. Becky - I KNOW!!!

Scott - LMNOB is not autistic, per se, but sits right on the edge of the spectrum. She has sensory integration dysfunction and some mildly significant (read, abnormal but not too bad) social impairments. Her OT and I have gone back and forth about having her evaluated for Asperger's because she's SO high functioning that would it REALLY be of benefit to have the label? But then every so often we have incidents....

As for the O - I'm a girl and therefore I talk about EVERYTHING. This blog is about significant events in my life and that was pretty dang significant. Wellbutrin is probably not my med b/c I'm prone to anxiety with depression and my doc thinks that's a no.

Jen - A little Father's Day gift made me feel like it was my b'day today ;) Hee....

  8. I love that he is writing a note about why they can't play together anymore. It'll help bring it on home to your son, to the other boy, and to the other boy's mother.

    Good for you all.
